About Us
The Wasatch Range
Writing Project (WRWP), a site of the National
Writing Project, is a federally-funded writing/teaching initiative.
The
WRWP was founded in 2007 and is co-directed by Dr. Gary Dohrer and Ms.
Margaret Rostkowski.
The
site's mission is to enhance student learning across disciplines and
grade levels through improved writing instruction. The WRWP brings
exceptional writing teachers
together to explore and share best practices with the belief
-
that the best professional development comes from teachers teaching
teachers,
-
that teachers of writing should be engaged writers themselves,
-
and that writing instruction should be informed by current pedagogical
theories.
The
WRWP provides a workshop setting to facilitate collaboration. Workshops
are held in one-week and four-week summer sessions or by arrangement
with school administrators. Teachers participating in the one-week
workshop receive two hours of graduate English credit from Weber State
University. Teachers invited to participate in the four-week workshop
receive six hours of graduate credit. Cost of tuition and books for the
four-week workshop is paid by the WRWP.
The value of the workshop environment is best described by teacher
participants.
