MUSEUM FUN!
Grades 2-4
SECTION 1 (Start by the tree ring on the inside of the museum)
1. How old is this tree? (1 ring= 1 year of growth)
This tree is about 298 years old.
2. Was this Allosaurus A plant-eater or a meat-eater? How can you tell?
The Allosaurus was a meat-eater. You can tell because the Allosaurus has very sharp teeth and claws.
3. Look at the display of the Hawk and Cougar. What adventure do you think they are on? Write a short story about where they are going, what they are doing, and why they are on an adventure.
4. What do you notice about the rocks when a black light is turned on?
The rocks glow.
5. What kind of wood are the African masks made out of? Where is the last forest where the wood is found? In the space below draw your own African mask.
The masks are made of Ebony, and the last forest where the wood is found is in Tanzania.
SECTION 2 (Marsh Living at Willard Bay Display)
1. What was the hollowed out stone with the rectangular rock used for?
To grind grains to make flour.

1. Where did the Anasazi Native Americans Live? They lived in the 4 Corners Area.
2. What is a Petroglyph? Petroglyphs are pictures carved onto a rock surface.
What is a pictograph? Pictographs are pictures painted on a rock surface.
Draw your own pictograph in the space below.
3. What animal family did the saber-tooth tiger belong to? Feline Family (Cats)
Would this have made a good pet? Why or why not? Would not make a good pet because it would eat you.
4. The saber-tooth tiger preyed mainly upon: C Mammoths
A. Rabbits B. Deer C. Mammoths D. Other tigers.
5. Look at the skeleton of the saber-tooth tiger and the domestic cow. Notice how different the teeth are between the two. Write down the differences that you see and discuss why you think their teeth are so different.
The tiger has 2 really long teeth, while the cow’s are pretty close to the same size. The tiger’s teeth are also very sharp because they eat meat, while the cow’s aren’t because they eat grasses.
6. What is the difference between the length of the monkey and ape arms vs. the human arms? What does this tell you about how the monkeys and apes moved around?
The monkey arms are much longer because they walk using their arms not just their legs. The human arms are much shorter because they are not used to walk around.
SECTION 3 (Move to the far end of the museum to the rock and mineral display)
1. Go to the crystals on the far end of the museum. What is your favorite crystal in the display case? ______________________ What do you like about that crystal?
2. Go to the herbs and spices outside the museum. Why do you think herbs and spices were so important to people years ago?
The spices gave the food flavor.
