Illustrated Mammals of the Intermountain West
This selection of 25 mammals that inhabit the Intermountain West was illustrated by Farrell R. Collett, one of Utah's most noted wildlife painters. Born in 1907 in Idaho, Farrell was trained at Brigham Young University and spent summer sessions at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, the Chicago Art Institute, and the American Academy of Art also in Chicago. He joined the Weber College (now Weber State University) art staff in 1939 and helped found the Art Department. He served as the chair until 1971 before retiring in 1976. He illustrated 23 books in his lifetime and his paintings were exhibited in the Utah Museum of Natural History. In 1981 he was recognized with an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Weber State College. Later he received the Utah State Governor's Award in the Arts. He died in 2000.
