"I was a quirky kid who got into a lot of trouble growing up in Hooper, Utah. I had like negative $13 in my bank account when my father challenged me to take the high school equivalency test and go to college.

"Three Weber State psychology professors recognized signs of promise, although I wasn't a very good student at first. I found out after graduation that one of them had even taught an extra class and donated his pay to the psych department so they could hire me as his research assistant. We presented our findings at a conference in Sweden during my senior year.

"I can tell you, with certainty, that if they seek it, Weber State students can essentially have an Ivy League experience. I found a path to the American Dream at Weber State."
